In 1965, the American Occupational Therapy Foundation, Inc. was chartered as a charitable, scientific, literary and educational society to “advance the science of occupational therapy. . .and increase the public knowledge and understanding thereof.” In 2000, as part of its mission to advance the science of the profession, the Foundation established an Institute for the Study of Occupation and Health organized around professional concepts as they relate to broad societal issues and needs.
