About |
After 13 uninterrupted years of carrying out the “Vision” institutional event, the University launches its XIV version in order to ensure the positioning of this academic activity both in institutional life, as well as in the local, regional, national and international context . By 2020, the central theme is framed in the Sustainable Development Goals defined in 2015 within the framework of the United Nations as part of a global agenda, which " are a universal call for the adoption of measures to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity . " The countries of the world, after proposing the Millennium Development Goals - MDG - in September 2000, which had as their main purpose the eradication of poverty as an aspirational goal for 2015, set a path of social development to achieve it, with the results that are already known. This emphasis on economic and social development, thanks to the results of the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, introduced the concept of sustainable development on the agenda of intergovernmental discussions with the purpose of harmonizing the environment and development. Sustainable development was initially defined in the Brundtland Report (1987) as "development that meets current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." However, the paths of the MDGs, oriented towards social development, and that of sustainable development, with its emphasis on the environmental dimension, ran in parallel and this was the case until 2012 when, at the United Nations Conference on Development Sustainable also carried out in Rio de Janeiro, known as Rio + 20, an agreement was reached to create a set of universal sustainable development goals that were realized after a process of several years, in the Sustainable Development Goals -ODS-. Now, the 2030 Agenda proposes a holistic approach to development strategies and considers it essential to harmonize three basic elements: economic growth, social inclusion and environmental protection as these elements are interrelated and are all essential for people's well-being. and societies. However, this Agenda transcends the three traditional dimensions of sustainable development and is based on the “Five global approaches” (Unitar-UNDP, 2019):
From these conceptions and postulates, higher education incorporates the 2030 Agenda as a reference for its formative processes, research and social projection, as a relevant actor in the construction of the future of humanity. In view of the above, the University of the Coast decided to orient the Vision 2020 agenda to the debate on the role of higher education in achieving these goals of world society and to guide efforts for the analysis of the “The University and its contribution to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals ” . Overall objective Create academic spaces to advance a reflection on the role of the Colombian University in the face of the challenges of the SDGs, share experiences and good practices and disseminate the results of its strategies and actions to the different social actors with whom it is articulated to achieve changes to A better future. Methodology For the development of Vision 2020 “The University and its contribution to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals” , conferences and panels of experts will be held in plenary sessions on the topics of interest. Parallel sessions will also be held for the presentation of the registered and selected works that meet the criteria previously established by the Academic Committee, for subsequent publication in the respective call. Additionally, during Vision 2020 a workshop will be held on the development of indicators to improve the competencies of measuring the progress and results of the actions to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs and a second workshop on GESAMP Methodology. |
