About

We would like to encourage graduate students from all disciplines to submit projects they are currently working on, or have completed in the past, which speak across disciplines and evoke conversations with scholars in other fields that might complement their work.

This conference has always been and will continue to be, an open forum for new critical methods, interdisciplinary projects, poster projects, and an amalgam of discussions that could lead to future collaboration. We ask that you keep our conference theme in mind when you submit an abstract, but you should not feel restricted if your work does not neatly fit into this framework.

Call for Papers

Technologies built from AI and Automation have the power to disrupt fields. When leveraged creatively they can empower researchers to accomplish works previously infeasible. This year we want to know how you are using AI and Automation in your discipline to push our societal understanding forward.

Possible topics and areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
1) How is AI or Automation empowering research at URI or elsewhere?
2) Academic works on how AI and Automation previous has, is currently, or will be expected to affect your field
3) Academic works about the intersection of disciplines with AI and Automation -- philosophically, societally, economically, ethically, or in any other context.

Academic Paper or Poster Presentation Track

Please propose individual papers or panels, and indicate whether you are willing to moderate a panel. Panels of 3-4 presentations are especially welcome. For paper and poster presentations you should submit an abstract of 250-300 words to urigradconference (at symbol)etal.uri.edu by February 14, 2019. Accepted works will have the option of archival in the conference proceedings. Accepted authors must present work at conference. Please note that this year we are also accepting limited academic work from graduating undergraduates accepted to graduate programs for the fall for a special session.

Artistic Expression Track

There will be an open mic session for poets, fiction, and creative non-fiction writers. Limited space is available to sculptures or physical artwork. Please submit a video showing work if not written. If you are a poet, please submit up to three poems that you would like to read during the open mic session. If you are a fiction or creative non-fiction writer please submit a piece between 500-750 words. Works cannot be returned. Send submissions to urigradconference (at symbol)etal.uri.edu by February 10, 2019.

Please visit our website if you are interested in presentations that were accepted in previous years: https://web.uri.edu/gradconference/2020-schedule/. Email urigradconference (at symbol)etal.uri.edu with any questions or concerns.
