Call for Papers - The Role of the Humanities in HE

Conference Rome (virtual) 22-23-25, July 2022

International University for Peace (UPEACE), Rome, Italy

This virtual event brings together academic teachers, researchers, postgraduates, practitioners, and global stakeholders to discuss the place of the Humanities in HE. The conference has a broad intended audience, including people from HE, government, non-governmental organisations, and the wider public.

We welcome theoretically and empirically interdisciplinary paper- and panel-proposals from Cultural Studies, Digital Humanities, History, International Human Rights, Languages and Literature, Material Culture, Philosophy and Religion to address the wide range of issues concerning The Role of the Humanities in HE. The expected length of individual papers is 20 minutes (with 10 minutes for questions and discussion).

Deadline for submissions of proposals is 28th February 2022.

Please submit your proposal in English, French, Italian, or Spanish.

Given the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the conference, though based at the International University for Peace (UPEACE) in Rome, will be conducted virtually through ZOOM. Registration will enable participation, presentation and eventual publication regardless of physical presence.

-What possibilities and difficulties do the Humanities provide in HE?
-Are traditional humanist values of free speech and critical thinking being redefined?
If so, how and by whom?
-With the global internet and social media, how is freedom of speech defined and
protected (and again, by whom)?
-What internal and external mechanisms support or constrain the advancement of the -
Humanities in HE, nation-state governments and international NGOs?
-What are the similarities and differences between the Humanities and STEM disciplines?
