About

The ACM Symposium on User Interface Software and Technology (UIST) is the premier forum for innovations in human-computer interfaces. Sponsored by ACM special interest groups on computer-human interaction (SIGCHI) and computer graphics (SIGGRAPH), UIST brings together people from diverse areas including graphical & web user interfaces, tangible & ubiquitous computing, virtual & augmented reality, multimedia, new input & output devices, and CSCW. The intimate size and intensive program make UIST an ideal opportunity to exchange research results and ideas.

Call for Papers

Appropriate Topics

Appropriate topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Enabling software and/or hardware technologies that open novel opportunities for interaction.

  • Designs that demonstrate compelling new interactive experiences.

  • Methods, architectures, and infrastructures for interactive systems.

In recent years, successful UIST submissions have focused on domains including: input and output devices, augmented/virtual reality, programming tools, mobile interaction, haptic and tactile interfaces, human-robot interaction, AI and HCI, fabrication, design and prototyping tools, creativity tools, ubiquitous computing, accessibility, visualization, information management, wearable computing, social computing, toolkits, education, crowdsourcing, and computer-supported cooperative work. We look forward to relevant submissions in novel domains as well.

Before Submitting, Read General Guidelines

Below we highlight some of the most important points, but please ensure you have reviewed the UIST paper submission and review process (coming soon) as well as a guide to a successful UIST paper submission here (coming soon).

  • Original Contributions & Novelty Over Prior Work: If you have previously published a related paper, are unsure if your contribution is large enough to warrant a full paper, or if your work builds on top of your own prior poster or demo, please read the guidelines on novelty over existing work (coming soon).

  • Citing Your Own Prior Work: UIST has strict guidelines on how to refer to your own prior work, including your own prior papers, posters, and demos at UIST and other venues (coming soon).

  • Concurrent Submission: UIST does not allow any concurrent submissions to other conferences or journals during the entire review process.

  • Revised Papers from Prior Submission Rounds: To ensure consistency of the review process, we encourage authors of previously rejected papers to upload the prior version of the paper and the corresponding reviews from the last round of submission as part of the UIST 2020 paper submission process.
