The spring school “Ethnography of Socialism” in Kriva Palanka, Macedonia, is dedicated to topics and problems related to social, economic, political and cultural life in the period of socialism in SFR Yugoslavia, comparing them to other socialistic countries. It is suitable for BA, MA and PhD students in the field of Ethnology and Anthropology, Sociology, Political Studies, etc. It offers: ~ Four courses: Anthropological Approach to Understanding Socialism, Research Methodology and Field Techniques, Political Economy and Society in Socialism, Visualizing Socialism. Guest lecturers are to be announced. ~ Field research in a period of 7 days, with a final presentation of results. ~ Activities, concerning the cultural heritage of socialism: listening to music, watching films, etc. The participants will obtain knowledge and practical research and applicative skills in order to better understand the socialist system, as well as contemporary social and political systems. The approach of the school is a comparative one and will enable understanding of similarities and differences of the various socialistic versions in this Balkan region and in a wider context. We will spend 10 days in hotel “Manastir” in Kriva Palanka and will held lectures and fieldwork in the surroundings.
