Literacy Development in Emergent Multilingual Learners in Early Childhood Recently, there has been increasing recognition of the importance of literacy development for emergent multilingual learners in early childhood. This symposium will provide a platform for sharing research, practices, and strategies that promote effective literacy and linguistic development for prekindergarten-aged children who are not only developing English skills but also becoming multilingual and multiliterate. We invite submissions in these areas (but not limited to): 1. Early language and literacy acquisition in emergent multilingual learners. 2. Research-based instructional approaches for promoting early literacy skills in multilingual contexts. 3. Assessment and evaluation methods in early literacy for emergent multilingual learners. 4. Strategies for fostering a language-rich environment to support multilingual literacy development. 5. Culturally responsive early literacy instruction for emergent multilingual learners. |
