This book offers a global overview on the sustainable mobility theme, as well as presents the main implications of performing an integrated analysis about the type of issues that commonly arise from the implementation and stimulus of sustainable practices into mobility. New concerns are gaining reinforced importance namely those regarding the environmental and demographic concerns, social equity and quality of life towards being properly considered to achieve the global best solutions. A multicriteria trip scenario approach was used, and beyond the state-of-the-art technology support tools and measures needed to operationalize the smart mobility requirements. In recent years, the degree of awareness increased the necessity of integrating, into the city planning, practices and policies towards rethinking the mobility infrastructures in order to improve the citizens’ quality of life. The mobility paradigm is changing from being merely focused on predicting and providing to predict and prevent, managing demand instead of just meeting demand, which brings also a positive impact in the environment. The combination and integration of all of these procedures will play an important role into the definition and development of the next generation of mobility systems. Therefore, the aim of this book is to provide new perspectives and present the latest mobility improvements regarding this global challenge based on the adoption of competitive solutions for transport efficiency and sustainability, in urban and rural environments with the introduction on a tipping point to the mobility of the future, known as Mobility as a Service (MaaS).

The purpose of this book is to discuss the recent advances in the urban and rural mobility contexts which will have a major impact in the future citizen’s quality of life, as well as bringing a multidisciplinary view between stakeholders with complementary views and competencies like engineers, researchers and practitioners interested in the advances and applications in the field of MaaS, Intelligent Transport Systems, Social Inclusion, Sustainability, among others.

The topics regarding the sustainable mobility theme will be extremely useful in different domains, specially the following e.g. rural mobility management and planning, social inclusion for the elderly and disabled people, environmental assessment and impacts, mobility platforms, soft transport modes, mobility management and planning. Moreover, the proposed book will serve as an insight and aide provider to a broader audience like professors, students, researchers, as well as to the governmental point of view, mobility planning agencies and authorities, and environmental management.

The chapters of this book are expected to cover the following areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Sustainable development, policy for transport and mobility, inter-modal transportation
• Smart mobility
• Alternative vehicle, carbon-free energy device
• Efficiency and security
• Soft modes mobility
• Human-Machine interaction (HMI), vehicle, bicycles and pedestrians sharing route
• Alternative vehicle, hybrid cars, electrical vehicles
• Passenger comfort and security, active and passive security
• Urban and rural mobility
• MaaS
• Demand transportation services
• Flexible Transportation services
• Emerging transport technologies
• IoT for Transportation Improvement
• Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning use case in Mobility
• Impact on organizations, society and individuals
• Implementations and case studies
