The Black Digital Humanities lab (Jackson State University and University of Toronto), in collaboration with the Center for Africana Digital Humanities at Clark Atlanta University, invites submissions for its inaugural 2024 Digital Humanities symposium.
Event Date: April 12, 2024 Submission Deadline: February 23rd, 2024 Format: Online Virtual Symposium Context and Invitation: In an era of rapid technological advancements and shifting global dynamics, Black Digital Humanities (BDH) stands as a crucial area for understanding and influencing these changes, particularly as they relate to Black experiences and futures. We invite early career scholars, graduate students, practitioners, community activists, and artists to contribute to our symposium, which aims to harness BDH's transformative potential. Themes for Proposal Submissions: What Are Your Black Futures? Envisioning future scenarios within Black communities in response to current global and technological changes. Groundwork/Planting the Seeds: Early Innovations in BDH Showcasing foundational BDH projects and their alignment with leading scholarly perspectives. Building Futures with New Technologies Innovative uses of technology in shaping Black futures, focusing on cultural preservation, storytelling, and community engagement. Protecting Futures: Ethics in BDH Navigating ethical challenges in BDH, promoting equitable representation and responsible technology use. Submission Guidelines: Submit an abstract (300-500 words) detailing your presentation, its relevance to BDH, and your chosen topic. Indicate your preferred presentation format (e.g., panel, workshop, interactive session).
