About |
We are open to the full range of approaches within cultural studies, including work that explores issues of ideology, theory or cultural definition and work that offers data driven, theoretically coherent, critical analyses of the major Asian cultural industries and cultural movements, past and present. The cultural industries are taken to include book publishing; film; television; radio; pop and rock music; classical and traditional music; theatrical and operatic performance; advertising and fashion; social and cultural movements; and new media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumbir and related mobile technologies. Essays equally at home exploring both the semiotic and the commercial significance of past, contemporary and emergent cultural forms are particularly welcome. Situations : Cultural Studies in the Asian Context publishes full-length essays, translations of important documents, and book reviews of relevant recent publications. Other material will be seriously considered if the editors believe it to be useful. Authors interested in appearing in Situations should send the initial version of the essay, with an accompanying 150-word abstract, as a Word attachment in 12-point font both to the Managing Editor, Dr. Rhee Suk Koo at [email protected] and the Editor, Dr. Terence Murphy at [email protected]. The document should follow the Chicago Style system for bibliographic reference. The author’s name should only appear on the title page of the contribution, and all references to the author’s own work in the in-text citation and bibliography should be kept strictly neutral to avoid the accidental uncovering of authorial identity. Authors are required to present an accurate account of the work they undertake, and any underlying data used should be represented accurately. Papers should contain accurate in-text citation and bibliographic references to permit others to review the study without difficulty. Fraudulent work and knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior. Submissions must not be under consideration for any other publication. Authors must secure permissions for any copyrighted illustrations. Articles cannot be previously published nor can they be posted online for at least twelve months after publication. Please include with your submission details your snailmail address, department fax, and e-mail address. Situations endeavors to report on the outcome of submissions within two months. Initial enquiries about writing a book review should be sent both to the Managing Editor, Dr. Rhee Suk Koo at [email protected] and the Editor, Dr. Terence Murphy at [email protected]. |
