Welcome Message
We are very pleased to invite you to attend the next International Solar Energy Society (ISES) Solar World Congress (SWC) 2019, which will take place in Santiago, Chile from November 4 to 7, 2019. The Congress will be held together with the IEA (International Energy Agency) Solar Heating and Cooling Programme (SHC) International Conference on Solar Heating and Cooling for Buildings and Industry. IEA SHC is a key strategic partner and is a co-Chair of SWC 2019.
The event is being held at the Parque Araucano Conference Center in Chile´s capital, a very dynamic city of seven million inhabitants, and in a country that’s deeply committed to the fast deployment of renewable energy so as to totally change the energy matrix of Chile towards 100% renewable energy.
Our local host will be SERC-Chile (Solar Energy Research Center) a consortium of seven Chilean Universities, as well as the Fraunhofer-Chile Foundation. All these institutions are deeply involved in solar energy research and development for Chile and the Latin American region. We count also with the support from Chile’s Energy Ministry, and CORFO Solar Committee, and a broad spectrum of industrial, research and technology partners.
This event continues and reinforces a long tradition of connecting the research and academic community with decision makers from different Government sectors, industry, financiers and practitioners. This is the first time that the ISES Solar World Congress as well as the SHC Conference will take place in South America, and we expect a large contingent of attendees from the Latin American Region, as well as from North America, Europe, Australia, Asia and the Middle East.
The Congress, together with the SHC Conference, will focus on the different technological advances and applications that can rapidly and cost effectively lead us to renewable energy meeting 100% of our needs for power, heating and transportation.
The Congress will feature technical presentations and interactive poster sessions on the latest renewable energy developments. We are also inviting global experts to give high level plenary overviews and keynote addresses on renewable energy transformation. We will also consider a rich variety of side events, workshops, conferences and work meetings to promote the interaction of all stakeholders, connect researchers, developers and financiers to the opportunities and needs of the Region in the renewable energy sector.
ISES is committed to achieving the vision of 100% renewable energy for all, used efficiently and wisely. This vision is particularly critical as the world addresses the challenges of mitigating climate change as agreed to in the Paris climate accord signed in 2015. Nevertheless, a transformation of our energy system is already occurring due to the strong public demand and acceptance of creating a carbon-free energy system.
SWC 2019/SHC 2019 will address the key ingredients of this transformation: technology innovation, financial opportunities, policy developments, and, most important, community and grass-roots actions that are leading to case studies and best practices that already are leading towards achieving a 100% renewable energy system in cities and regions. Nevertheless, many challenges remain, and SWC 2019/SHC 2019 will bring to the forefront a dialogue among diverse experts to discuss and formulate actions to meet these challenges.
Of course, we’ll also have networking and social events, and the opportunity to take technical tours, including a visit to the very large solar systems operating or being deployed in the Atacama Desert.
