Introduction

With the growing need to efficiency and flexibility when deploying network functions and with the necessity to reduce the CAPEX and OPEX for network operators, the introduction of new networking paradigms becomes more and more essential. In this context, a consortium of 20 of the major Telecommunication operators has introduced in October 2012 the paradigm of Network Functions Virtualization (NFV). This new paradigm is driving the Telecom industry to an unprecedented shift. The NFV consists of decoupling network functions from dedicated hardware by deploying the corresponding software on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment. The emergence of such technology as one of the pillars of the future networking technologies has led to the deployment, design and delivery of new services based on cloud data center infrastructure. This new paradigm introduces new challenges and issues for quality of service maintenance, and requires new concepts and tools to manage the network and measure the performance.

Objective

The main aim of this book is to provide students, academics and scientific researchers as well as network engineers the recent advances and development in the field network functions virtualization. This book will show how this paradigm can help telecom and network operators reduce their CAPEX and OPEX. It should explain the last developments in Network Function Virtualization and draw the future research directions in this field. The book is also expected to investigate state-of-art research issues, applications and achievements in the field of NFV.

Target Audience

The intended audience will be practitioners at all levels of Network Functions Virtualization including,
• Researchers
• Graduate and Postgraduate students
• R&D engineers
• Network managers
• Network engineers
• Telecom engineers.

Recommended Topics

This book attracts contributions in all aspects pertaining to this paradigm. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Service/VNF chaining
• VNF placement
• Network management and orchestration
• Virtual network slicing
• Design of new programmable network abstractions
• Integration of the NFV architecture with the emerging paradigms like Fog computing and Mobile Edge.
• Virtualization techniques and tools
• NFV applications (5G, Fog computing,…)
• Performance evaluation of VNFs
• Radio Access Network virtualization
• SDN-NFV in access networks
• Edge and Fog Computing
• Quality of Service in NFV architectures
• Data traffic routing in NFV architectures
• Security consideration in NFV architectures
• Resource management and optimization in NFV architectures
• Case studies

Submission Procedure

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before Jun 22, 2019, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by Sep 4, 2019, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at http://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.

Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Design, Management, and Challenges in Network Function Virtualization. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.

All proposals should be submitted through the eEditorial Discovery®TM online submission manager.
