SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS
=====================
CHItaly is the Biannual Conference of the Italian SIGCHI Chapter and open to both members and nonmembers, especially addressing HCI scholars working in the Mediterranean and central European countries. This year it is organized by the University of Padova and by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice

SUBMISSION TOPICS
Submissions are welcome on *any* topic of human-computer interaction.
Additionally, this edition will elaborate the theme of the 'next interaction', acknowledging that the relations between the individual self, society, environment and technology are deeply changing. Information and Communication Technologies offer new opportunities to sense huge amounts of data and to use such data to augment human knowledge, influence behavior and control the environment. How can human society take advantage of these new opportunities? What are the risks related to delegating control to automated, networked, sensing machines? Which ethical boundaries need to be confirmed and which to be revised? CHItaly19 will pay special attention to topics such as:
- responsibly designing the interchange with the ICT components that are progressively becoming a symbiotic part of our body and mind, and keeping the human in the loop while implementing automation in the factory of the future;
- getting publicly engaged and able to interact with the huge amount of data related to the urban, social and natural environment, in order to stimulate proper actions within a sustainable, smart framework;
- exploiting new interactive paradigms to augment users’ knowledge and engagement with cultural heritage, and to access different knowledge domains, including art and science, by coupling cognitive and emotional experience;
- designing persuasive, motivating, empowering technologies that increase awareness of health issues and motivate to positive life styles.

SUBMISSION FORMATS
All submissions must be in English and contain original work not published elsewhere.

- LONG AND SHORT PAPERS. Long papers must not exceed eight (8) pages in length, and short papers must not exceed four (4) pages in length, with maximum two additional pages for references. Long and short papers are subject to a double-blind review process by members of the Program Committee. Submissions must be anonymous, avoiding to include information (authorship, acknowledgements, name of application or software or project) suggestive of the identity of the authors; it can be added later, to the camera ready version of the accepted papers. Both long and short accepted papers will be included in the main proceedings published by ACM. They must be formatted using the ACM SIGCHI format. Three options are available:
- Microsoft Word template (https://www.acm.org/binaries/content/assets/publications/word_style/interim-template-style/interim-layout-.docx)
- LaTex template (https://www.acm.org/binaries/content/assets/publications/consolidated-tex-template/acmart-master.zip)
- Overleaf template for LaTex online collaborative writing (https://www.overleaf.com/gallery/tagged/acm-official#.WOuOk2e1taQ)
Inclusion in the main proceedings is conditional upon registration of the presenter within the recommended deadline.

-DC AND POSTERS. The Doctoral Consortium (DC) is a special session of the conference where a limited number of PhD students can receive some expert feedback on their work. Applications to participate must describe the research questions, the project position with respect to the state of the art, the research plans and methodology, as well as the ideas and results achieved.
Posters are descriptions of small studies/experiences, or of recent study insights of works still in progress. Posters will be displayed and presented during a dedicated session of the conference, and will have a 1 minute presentation slot in one of the plenary sessions. In order for accepted posters to be displayed, poster presenters are required to register and be present during the poster session.
Posters, and dc proposals are 2-page word abstracts in the ACM template and pdf format, references included. Accepted posters and dc proposals will be included in the adjunct proceedings volume (not published by ACM).

-TUTORIAL AND WORKSHOPS. Workshops are small meetings on a dedicated topic; tutorials are small courses on a specific tool or technique. Candidate organizers can submit their proposal as a 2-page description in pdf format including the name of the organizers, affiliations, motivations, organization, expected outcome, duration, material. Upon approval, the workshop/tutorial will be devoted a dedicated space on the conference website, and its description will be included in the adjunct proceedings (not published by ACM). A limited number of slots are available.

- DEMOS. To propose a demonstration of an interactive prototype during the demo session, developers can submit a 2-page description of authors, affiliation, status of implementation and deployment, goals, equipment brought/needed. For demos of commercial products, please contact the organizers to participate as a sponsor.

SUBMISSION METHODS
Long and short papers are to be submitted online via EasyChair (https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=chitaly19).
All other submission types are to be sent as an attachment to [email protected], specifying the format type (i.e., whether it is for a poster, demo, workshop, tutorial or dc)

AWARDS
Awards to the best paper, poster and dc proposal will be granted.
